It seems my poor 12 year old greyhound Ralphie is going senile. We took him to the vet a couple of weeks ago because he’d started to pee indoors (something he’s never done). The vet has put him on a course of antibiotics in case it’s a bladder infection , but with the other symptoms he’s showing suspects it’s senility. Symptoms for this are:
loss of house training, lack of interest in food and attention, circling and compulsive behaviour such as paw licking, inappropriate barking and whining, weakness, tremors, changes in sleep patterns and pacing at night, ‘forgetfulness’ and a decrease in awareness of surroundings.
and he seems to have all of these to some degree or another. There is medication they can give him for the senility, but I don’t know if it’s going to help or not. Fingers crossed it does and we get to keep him for another year or two.
